WITH PC YOU ARE CONDEMNED TO RUN WINDOWS Posted by Guest Poster #2 on 03/27/09 9:57 AM |
Microflop is losing market share. That explains this ad. Shivers all over.
To the girl in the ad:
If you are an actress... well done! You are good in acting.
If you are a real person... don't forget the annual subscription fees for Sophos, Norton or Kaspersky antivirus software. You will need it.
You have my sympathy.

Anyone know this sucker, I mean girl buying PC? Email? It would be fun to ask her how that lovely OS Vista crap is doing and to mention that she got a computer that lacked fast wireless 802.11n, fast Gigabit Ethernet, digital audio inputs and outputs, weighs 7.75 pounds, and only features the screen resolution of Apple's 15" notebooks: 1440 by 900. People will buy anything because it's "cheap"... morons. email Posted by eyerhyme on 03/27/09 10:34 AM |
Times are tough right now and avery penny counts to a lot of people. Apple's premium prices are bound to turn off a lot of potential buyers in this economy.

I want buy a MacBook Pro 15" but need the price to come down a little. Will there ever be a sale ? No more PC's for me. Posted by Guest Poster #6 on 03/27/09 12:36 PM |
Marketing vs Reality: (1) Apple -- sales rise because Macs run Win Apps & Games. (2) Microsoft -- do we even sell PCs? Marketing can fool most of the people most of the time. Marketing vs Reality Posted by Guest Poster #7 on 03/27/09 1:00 PM |
All she wanted was a 17 inch screen under a $1000?
Well, she got what she wanted.
It's like looking for a Toyota with a six cylinder engine under $15K. Toyota doesn't sell one. She got the equivalent of a Yugo and all that entails. Dumb Comparison Posted by Synthmeister on 03/27/09 1:04 PM |
Yeah, it's silly to say all I want is a computer with a 17-inch screen. For the sake of a simple commercial the concept works, but is completely unworkable for a real purchase. It's like saying I want the cheapest car that comes in blue. Posted by Guest Poster #9 on 03/27/09 1:40 PM |
For a lot of folks out there the type of computer/laptop this lady got was all that some folks really need. I'm a Mac person, but my wife couldn't care less. She uses my old Compaq laptop to play her scrabble game and to look for supplies for her crafts. I've been trying to convince her that she needs a Mac laptop and how much she would enjoy it, but the truth is that this old laptop that I purchased for college about five or six years ago really does do everything she wants! I do wish that Apple's prices were more competitive. I do wish that I could be as level-headed as she is (and I really hope she never reads this :-) Posted by Guest Poster #10 on 03/27/09 5:56 PM |
is to teach your potential customers about how BAD the price of your competitor's product is, you advertise for your competitor's superiority.
If you can't advertise your superior points, you are treading water like GM in a cold Michigan river...and that is deadly. When You Only Shot to Succeed... Posted by Guest Poster #11 on 03/27/09 11:27 PM |
Try a refurbished one in the Mac online store and save 15-20%. A cheaper Mac? Posted by phil on 03/28/09 12:47 AM |
I can't wait to see Apple's "Get a Mac" response to this ad. I can't image what it's going to be, but it's going to be good.
By the way, my 400MHz G4 TiBook is still going strong. Sure it can only run Tiger, but it is still very capable for email, web surfing and office apps. I wonder how the 9 year old Dell's and HP's are holding up? Posted by Guest Poster #13 on 03/28/09 11:34 AM |
...and a Mercedes costs more than a Hyundai. What's your point?
Many people who are ACTUALLY on budgets have been known to buy used products as well. Posted by Guest Poster #14 on 03/28/09 11:40 AM |
If she is so cheap, and non hip, why does she drive a VW and not a Hundai. Nuf said. This looks like a scripted commercial... hum... guess it is.
typical MS. Not cool.
just silly Posted by Guest Poster #15 on 03/29/09 12:46 AM |
'Perky' Lauren is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. It's public knowledge. So:
SURPRISE!
MegaloSquirt chose and actress to do their commercial. Her pay? One POS Windows PC laptop. Hope it was worth your soul Lauren. She really IS and actress Posted by Derek Currie on 03/30/09 10:32 PM |

Ok, I've just gone to HPs web site. I can't find a 17" pavilion for $699. Closest I can find is the dv7t (nice name, BTW; really rolls off the tongue) for $799. So then I take it and a 17" macbook pro, and I try configure them. My rule was to make them as similar as possible. Result:
HP: 2284.97 - $ 170 rebate = 2114.97
Apple: $2499
Now, the HP has some cool options, like lightscribe optical drive, a fingerprint reader, or 1Gb video ram. These just aren't available on the Macbook pro. And there are some unavoidable differences, like ATI vs NVidia. But there's also lots of stuff I can't put on the HP: an 8-hour (supposedly) battery, digital audio ports, a display with the same res as the macbook pro, etc.
It seems to me that $200-400 more is a no-brainer for these things. I mean, it's worth $100 for me just not to have my notebook covered in stickers! And definitely worth $100 in weight. The HP is 7.74 lbs, the mac is 6.6 lbs.
If anyone cares, here's the config I used for the HP. By all means tell me if I'm wrong, or could have configured something more closely.
