Report: Apple delays plans for own iPhone modem

Apple has been working towards developing in-house modem technology for iPhones. According to a Bloomberg report, Qualcomm says it expects to maintain supplying the "vast majority" of chips in 2023. Previously, Qualcomm expected to see modem component sales drop as much as 80% in 2023.

The company has been relying on Qualcomm. The companies have had a contentious relationship, although they agreed to a deal supplying Apple modems into 2025. It's speculated that Apple is planning to have an in-house design and not rely on Qualcomm for critical iPhone components for most devices by then.

It's not clear if iPhone users would notice the change. Either way, it seems a change is at least another year away.
