Apple appears to confirm USB-C is coming to Phones

European regulations will require all new mobile phones and tablets to have USB-C connectors within two years. Unless the iPhone goes portless, it seems foregone that future iPhones will switch from Apple's Lightening connector to USB-Cas it seems unlikely Apple would make a special model.

Apple Vice Presidents Greg Joswiak and Craig Federighi participated in The Wall Street Journal's Tech Live conference and were asked about European regulation.

Via The Verge:

When asked by The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern if the company would replace Lightning, Apple's senior VP of worldwide marketing, Greg Joswiak, answered by saying: "Obviously, we'll have to comply; we have no choice."

Apple has been slowly transitioning other products, such as newer laptops and, most recently, AirPods and iPads. The iPhone is a bigger change considering the number of devices and that people likely have built up an inventory of Lightning cables and accessories over the years that will also need to be replaced with a new phone.
