Apple on its upcoming privacy notification feature

After its initial delay, Apple is still prepping its app privacy notification feature and it continues to cause waves. The new feature will prompt users to grant permission for apps to collect personal information. The new feature is expected to come In an update in 2021.

In a statement, Apple described what the feature will and won't do.

9 to 5 Mac:

â€"We believe that this is a simple matter of standing up for our users. Users should know when their data is being collected and shared across other apps and websites â€" and they should have the choice to allow that or not. App Tracking Transparency in iOS 14 does not require Facebook to change its approach to tracking users and creating targeted advertising, it simply requires they give users a choice.”

I think a developer shouldn't be concerned if they can make a valid case to their customers on why they should permit this collection of data. For many developers, however, it will likely disrupt their business models if advertising becomes less efficient. Facebook may have a harder time simply because people have grown suspicious of the company's collection and usage of personal data. At a point, however, people should consider not using services if they're unwilling to allow them to collect data that are necessary for them to operate.
