Microsoft and Apple bring new iCloud app to Windows

The Verge:

Apple and Microsoft have been working together on a new iCloud app for Windows 10. While iCloud has always been available on Windows, this new app is available in the Microsoft Store and includes a sync feature that’s based on the same tech behind OneDrive’s Files On-Demand feature. This means you can now access iCloud files on a Windows 10 PC without them having to be fully synced to a PC, thus saving disk space.

For a few years, iCloud and macOS offered an intelligent and seamless way to manage synced storage. The macOS would manage space so as the drive became full, it would offload iCloud files. When needed, the files are downloaded on-demand.

The new OneDrive for Mac isn't as intelligent but offers the feature to download files on-demand rather than syncing everything to a drive. It seems like the Windows version of iCloud matches this functionality.
