Samsung TV to gain iTunes, AirPlay 2 support

The Verge:

Samsung’s 2018 and 2019 range of televisions will be able to access and play your iTunes movie and TV show library, the company has announced. You’ll also be able to buy and rent content from iTunes directly from the TV. The content will be available through a dedicated app which will debut exclusively on Samsung’s TVs. The TVs will also include support for AirPlay 2, Apple’s wireless streaming standard.

This is a shift in strategy for Apple. You could always play iTunes content on Samsung TVs, but it was through Apple hardware in the Apple TV. This announcement puts its content on the TV itself and not an input. Probably more notably, it makes Apple's content a peer to Netflix on Samsung TVs. Apple is widely expected to roll out a streaming service of some kind this year, and it's easy to put these two things together.
